Going home

As we were leaving our hotel this morning, the bellman asked me what I thought of LasVegas. Having learned he had lived in Colorado himself and would be familiar with our state's SE often dry and barren nearly desert plains, I answered him with the same words I told Adelia as we first approached the city: "This place is not so special - just looks like Pueblo, Colorado, but on steroids."

To which the bellman replied, "You're right - I've just never heard it put that way."

Arizona...going east

Add trees to the canyon sides and Virgin Canyon would have the appearance and feel of the Rockies. The elevation, however, is greatly different. As I took this picture, we were beside a sign that read, "Elevation 2000 feet." Even the lowest spot in Colorado (on the remote SE plains) is double that.

Utah scenery is spectacular...

Colorado's Rockies are still my favorite!

Glenwood Canyon

I-70 through Glenwood Canyon is a gorgeous drive. This was the area of the interstate that the rockfall that closed last week and forced our 200 mile detour through Steamboat and Craig. Our trip home was 3 hours shorter since workers now have this stretch of I-70 open one lane in each direction. The speed is limited, but the scenery is even more spectacular when you drive slower speeds!

Final stop before arriving home...

Beau Jo's Pizza - Idaho Springs
Highly recommended!
